Earlier this year I created The Marvel 52, a 1-story-per-week annual reading plan to take you through the Marvel universe. The guide’s proved popular enough that I’ve been fielding DC requests ever since. Naturally I can’t refuse!

This guide is intended to provide an extremely manageable reading plan that covers as much of the high quality essentials as possible. I also intend to cover a wide span of DC’s timeline, from the Golden Age to present day. Admittedly, though, there’s a bent towards more modern comics, which will be the preference of most readers.
Like the Marvel guide, I forced myself to avoid Omnibus editions in order to keep the reading less intense and because apparently I like an insane challenge (also, I already have a DC Omnibus guide!). Otherwise, all collections should be available digitally via the likes of Comixology or Hoopla Digital, and in print wherever comics are sold.

Love it. I'm a huge Grant Morrison fan, and I think this list looks fantastic. I think including a lot of his work makes the list work because his reinterpretations of the characters work pretty much seamlessly even with some of the convoluted continuity of the characters.

6) Adams and O’Neil Batman - the issues you list seem to just have covers by Neal Adams? It looks like BATMAN ILLUSTRATED BY NEAL ADAMS VOL. 3 contains the Batman issues penciled by Adams and written by Denny O'Neil (BATMAN #232, #234, #237, #243-245 and #251).
8) Manhunter - your Amazon link is the first TPB of Marc Andreyko's Manhunter vol. 3. I'm guessing from your mention of issues #1-24 and the fact that it's so early in the list that this should be Manhunter vol. 1 from 1988, featuring Manhunter Mark Shaw?
I've read pretty much all of these...most as they came out (Great Darkness is on my bucket list) and I have some thoughts.
Ok, here is what you are going to do (you'll thank me later):
Drop Multiversity, it's just Grant Morrison trying too hard again. And add in Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League International 1-7. How you could make a DC list without this iteration of the JLA is beyond me.
Also drop Morrison Batman & Robin. It is not really Robin, it's Damian Wayne. And how much Morrison do you need? (His Animal Man, Doom Patrol and JLA are all you'll ever need.) add in Jerry Ordway Power of Shazam.
Next swap out 52 (1-26) with Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. The 52 is long and complicated and gets you nowhere. The Judas Contract may be one of the best stories out of the 80s. (If you start around Issues 21 and go through to the end of the Judas Contract you will not be disappointed)
Speaking of the 80s, or was it 90s? There is no need to read Knightfall. Trust me. I was there for the original run. Late 80s early 90s event overload. Pick up Robin: Year one by Chuck Dixon instead (see what I did there?)
And finally get rid of All-Star Superman (really? More Morisson?) and if you want a really good alternate view of Sups add in Superman/Batman: Generations. Covers your golden age ideals with new interpretations without being too much.
