X-Men: Destiny of X Reading Order! (Krakoa X-Men Pt. 3)

Following the beginning of Marvel’s Hickman era of X-Men in the Dawn of X and Reign of X, the X-Men line of comics will move into the Destiny of X, what is effectively the third part of life on Krakoa for the mutants.

Previously: Dawn of X

Previously: Reign of X

The Destiny of X is a true changing of the guard for the X-Men, as Head of X Jonathan Hickman leaves the franchise following the events of Inferno. Entering the Destiny of X, there are significant changes in the mutant leadership of Krakoa, as the Quiet Council adapts to new players like Irene Adler, Destiny, a mutant with the ability to see the future, and a destabilized power base for Professor X and Magneto.

If you’re looking to get started with this era of X-Men, make sure to check out House of X / Powers of X before beginning the Destiny of X, and again, you’ll likely want to check out portions of the Dawn of X and Reign of X guides linked above for the first two parts of this reading order.

The follow up to Inferno begins in X Lives and X Deaths of Wolverine!

X Lives & X Deaths of Wolverine Reading Order:

X Lives of Wolverine #1

X Deaths of Wolverine #1

X Lives of Wolverine #2

X Deaths of Wolverine #2

X Lives of Wolverine #3

X Deaths of Wolverine #3

X Lives of Wolverine #4

X Deaths of Wolverine #4

X Lives of Wolverine #5

X Deaths of Wolverine #5

Destiny of X Comics

Sabretooth #1

Ok, so realistically the first issue of the five issue Sabretooth miniseries by Victor Lavalle and Leonard Kirk can be read any time after X-Force #1 in the Dawn of X (or really just after House and Powers). That said, it’s published here after Inferno, and there are small details that may make reading it more in line with publication order a better fit.

Sabretooth #2

Sabretooth #3

Sabretooth #4

By the time we get to issue #4, Sabretooth is caught up to X Lives / X Deaths of Wolverine in the timeline.

Sabretooth #5

Chronologically, you could argue this issue likely occurs even later into the Destiny of X, but it reads better in sequence with the rest of the mini, and to my knowledge isn’t referenced elsewhere.

Marauders Annual #1

New Mutants #24

The Secret X-Men #1

Chronologically, Secret X-Men could be read any time after the Hellfire Gala.

X-Men #8 to #10

Immortal X-Men #1

Immortal X-Men #2

X-Men Red #1

Marauders #1

X-Force Annual #1

X-Force #27

X-Force #28

X-Force #29

Knights of X #1

Marauders #2

Marauders #3

Marauders #4

Marauders #5

Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird #1

X-Men #11

Free Comic Book Day: A.X.E. Judgment Day (2022)

As you’d expect this is a prelude to Marvel’s Judgment Day event. The issue also offers a huge tease for 2022’s Hellfire Gala!

Free Comic Book Day: Spider-Man / Venom (2022)

As you probably wouldn’t expect, Zeb Wells is bringing his Hellions / X-Men skills to Amazing Spider-Man!

X-Men Red #2

Knights of X #2

New Mutants #25

Legion of X #1

Legion of X #2

Wolverine #20

Wolverine #21

Wolverine #22

Wolverine #23

X-Men Red #3

Immortal X-Men #3

New Mutants #26

X-Men Red #4

Legion of X #3

Legion of X #4

Ms. Marvel & Wolverine #1

She-Hulk #6

Nightcrawler asks Jen to represent Krakoa.

New Mutants #30

X-Force #30

This is listed as a “Judgement Day” event tie-in but it’s not related at all. The remainder of this arc does continue into “Judgement Day” with clearer tie-ins (although it’s still very skippable as part of the event!).

Hellfire Gala (2022) #1

Amazing Spider-Man #9

Immortal X-Men #4

Up Next: Judgment Day!

X-Men #15

X-Men #16

X-Men #17

Marauders #7

Technically, this issue references “eve of Judgment,” but it makes more sense after the event in my view.

Marauders #8

Marauders #9

Marauders #10

New Mutants #31

New Mutants #32

Invincible Iron Man #1 to #5

Gerry Duggan’s “Iron Man” is borderline an X-book, and will clearly play a role in the build to Fall of X.

Immortal X-Men #9

X-Men Red #10

Legion of X #9

Legion of X #10

Immortal X-Men #10

Next: Sins of Sinister

Then: Fall of X

  • Hello! I am a huge fan of this reading order! I've been working through Destiny of X, but when I looked ahead at the Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, I noticed that it didn't seem complete. I was wondering if this reading order will be updated and completed. I have been greatly enjoying it and can't thank you enough for all the amazing work you've done here! I am just excited to read more and complete this era, and I was wondering how to navigate those missing issues at the end of the reading guide. Thank you!

  • I'm not sure if it's just me, but on the Fall of X page, it stops at Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant 1. I thought maybe it just hadn't been updated since then, but just recently seen the Fall of House X/Rise of Powers of X link posted below that. Tried viewing in Chrome for Android and Firefox/Edge for PC. Also, can't comment on that page.

  • Shouldn’t Bishop War College 5 be placed after Sins ofSinister Dominion? Considering (trying not to spoil here) the whereabouts of a certain character?

  • Couldn't help but notice there is no X-Terminators #4 on this list. Anyone know where it happens to fit in?

  • Anybody know if this ers will be released as multiple volumes, like Dawn, Reign, and Trials of X? I have all of the other ones so far and I wanted to collect the whole Krakoa era in this way.
