Join Now: Marvel “My Marvelous Year” Reading Club & Podcast!

Hello Heralds!

I’m extremely excited to announce the return of an all-new improved My Marvelous Year, the Comic Book Herald reading club that tackles the entire history of Marvel Comics, 10 essential stories per publication year at a time. We begin with the Marvel Comics of 1962, before a list for 1963… and so on, all the way to present day!

If you’ve been looking to get into Marvel Comics, or simply want to explore the universe more thoroughly, join us any time as we celebrate Marvel’s history in style!

New for version 2.0, Comic Book Herald will be launching the My Marvelous Year podcast. Zack Deane (the “newcomer to Marvel Comics”) and myself (the “expert” (can you all hear my wife laughing, or is that just me?)) will be discussing the comics we read weekly, in addition to covering reader (that’s you!) questions and feedback.

The MMY pod is a great way to get supplemental content around your reading, including historical context, analysis, and my own personal brand of biting wit (see also: dad jokes). It may also help fill in some of the issues or story arcs you couldn’t find time for, or found less compelling.

Additional Frequently Asked Questions:

I already did My Marvelous Year – why should I read again?

Apart from your own desire to re-consume the mighty Marvel Universe, I think there are a few good reasons to consider diving back in to the reading club:

  • Additions to the reading lists based on comics that have since been added to the Marvel Unlimited catalog (a surprising amount to add!)
  • Opportunity to have your thoughts immortalized on the My Marvelous Year podcast
  • Extension of the reading lists to cover 2011 through present day!

Is this different than Comic Book Herald’s complete Marvel reading order?

Yep, a bit. In short, My Marvelous Year is a more thorough reading guide through every year of Marvel Comics history. This is my preferred guide for true die-hards.

Will this include everything?

No. As mentioned, I keep the My Marvelous Year lists manageable by curating the top 10 essential stories from a publication year. As Marvel’s publication output grows, there are bonus reading recommendations that will be added.

All in all, My Marvelous Year is an absolute boatload of recommended comics reading, but we sure as a Pym Particle aren’t touching every single issue of Tales to Astonish.

There was voting on “Hero of the Year” last time? Will we vote again?

Not quite. We’ll likely open up some different forms of polling on the Patreon page, but the “Hero of the Year” voting is by and large set. So if you’re still furious that Spider-Man beat the Fantastic Four for 1966 “Hero of the Year,” write in a letter to the Daily Bugle!
