Doom Patrol Reading Order

No team in superhero comics represents the few, the proud, the weirdos, quite like DC’s Doom Patrol. While the Justice League or Teen Titans represent pure heroism, the Doom Patrol represents pure quirk.

Depending on who you ask, the Doom Patrol are either the inspiration (see also: lightly copied source material) for Marvel’s X-Men, or coincidentally (strikingly) similar.

Fortunately, the Doom Patrol’s status as curious oddities have mitigated their integration into the larger DC Universe. As a result, their continuity is defined by notable creator-driven runs, with the requisite comic book confusion and rebooting injected into the mix.

It’s consistently overlooked that Vertigo’s 90’s Doom Patrol had life beyond the Grant Morrison and (largely) Richard Case era!

The series officially moved to the Vertigo imprint, with writing by Rachel Pollack and art by Ted McKeever, including stories like “The Teiresias Wars” from Doom Patrol #75 to #79.

Given it’s destructive continuity evisceration, you’re probably better off just skipping the relatively short-lived John Byrne incarnation of the team.

  • Hi, great list but wasn't there a showcase presents issue featuring the new DP and one with a Flash crossover during the Silver age. Also missing their appearances in supergirl and the Suicide Squad special, blackest night and secret six crossover
