The first issue in the March to Axis comes in the form of the latest issue of Magneto. Magneto has been one of my favorite new Marvel comics of the year and has given us one of the best anti-hero stories that I’ve found in the comics medium. It’s also one of my favorite iterations of the Magneto character out of everything that I’ve read. I’ve been trying to tell everyone I know to check this one out. As I said earlier this is a prelude of sorts for Marvel’s fall event, Axis, combing one of my favorite comics with one of my most anticipated comics of the year. Seriously!
So we’ve finally reached the end to the journey that began in Avengers Arena. What began as a transparent Hunger Games knock off when it was announced turned out to be a well written, character driven tale that was an exciting read from start to end. The survivors of that book continued their adventures in Avengers Undercover which posited whether or not the experiences these characters dealt with would result in them turning to the dark side and joining up with Baron Zemo’s organization. Amazing Spider-Man #6 Review! “Business As Usual”
Here we go again kiddos! Spider-Man, and more importantly, Peter Parker, has been dealing with a lot of ‘stuff’ since his return to his own body with his own brain, after defeating Doctor Octopus. DEATH OF WOLVERINE #2 Review! “Poison”
Fresh on the heels of the first issue, DEATH OF WOLVERINE 2 hit the shelves this week. Marvel plans on pumping out all four issues in this month, so the beloved character will be good and buried by October. Old-School X-Men with Lincoln Crisler: Uncanny X-Men #199
Last week’s installment gave us the second of Barry Windsor-Smith’s two Storm-based collaborations with Chris Claremont, a standalone issue called “LifeDeath II” that foreshadowed the return of (still powerless) Ororo to the X-Men. This week gives us a killer issue leading up to Uncanny #200…and, as comics fans well know, those issues with important numbers are always…well…important.
