The second to last issue of Marvel’s big summer crossover Original Sin has arrived. My only problem is that all it did was make me wish it was the last. Not because I hate the book or anything, but I just want some answers after three issues of questions. I guess Marvel did their job in making me want the answers though. Sadly the ride to get there hasn’t been as enjoyable as I expected after the first few issues. I just hope that this last issue has an interesting ending as well as setting up future stories. Amazing Spider-Man #5 Review! The Black Cat’s Revenge
This issue was a doozy! In a very frenzied, familiar way, Amazing Spider-Man #5 follows Peter as the recent events in his life are all building to a bunch of bad luck, due in a rather large part to his once friend, now enemy, The Black Cat. Also, spiraling out of the events of the current Marvel event, Original Sin, this book has a little bit of everything thrown into the mix. [Read more…] about Amazing Spider-Man #5 Review! Captain America #23 Review! A Glimpse of Hope From the Darkness
Rick Remender’s run on Captain America has been an interesting, but sometimes frustrating read since it began. The first arc, a ten issue story that put Steve Rogers into a hellish plane called Dimension Z, was fantastic from start to finish. Making Rogers an adoptive father while at the same time trying to survive in a hostile environment that is continuously under attack by Arnim Zola’s mutant army made for a fun read. However, the rather depressing ending was only the beginning of what would become a running theme in this run, making Steve Roger’s life absolute hell. During the second and third arcs, things continued to get worse and worse for Steve as his reputation takes a big hit, he is blamed for harming America’s standing with the rest of world, and his faith in S.H.I.E.L.D. is all but shattered. Wolverine #11 Review! One Month to Die – Death of Wolverine Imminent
This issue is the true beginning of the end for Wolverine. With only one issue left in the series, and then the ‘Death of Wolverine’ mini-series to follow right on its heels, things are starting to really get final for the feral mutant. Amazing X-Men #10 Review! And the War Goes On
Before I get to this issue specifically, a brief overview of how this series has progressed. When Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness began this book last year, it quickly became one of the most fun and enjoyable books being published by Marvel. Even if the only real point of that story arc was meant to bring back Nightcrawler (HEY! It’s in the title), I highly recommend the trade. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and Jason Aaron left the title at issue 6 (with a different artist) capping off a great run on the X-men in general.
